Investigation

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, the Brownsville Police Department received calls from several citizens in reference to a canine that was tied up with no food or water at a residence on the 2000 block of Avenida Anna. Animal Control responded to location where they made contact with the owner of the canine who cooperated with the investigation. At location, animal control took photographs of the canine and determined that the canine appeared healthy, had water and proper shelter, and was in no immediate danger. The owner, who was unable to provide proof of rabies vaccine at the time, was cited for vaccines required. An incident report was filed documenting this incident.

The Brownsville Police Department values all life and reports of animal cruelty are not taken lightly. If an individual is found to have committed cruelty to animals, the individual will be charged accordingly. Upon further review of this incident by the Brownsville Police Department, it was determined that the incident did not meet the elements for the criminal offense of Cruelty to Nonlivestock Animals under state law.
