ARRESTED: Accident Involving Death and Criminal Negligent Homicide

On March 11, 2019 at approximately 10:40 A.M., Officers responded to the 5700 block of Padre Island Highway in reference to a hit and run accident involving a pedal cyclist. Officers arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male subject, identified as Nicholas Garza Torres (79), who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Witnesses advised officers they had seen Torres riding his bicycle on the shoulder lane on Padre Island Highway when a white SUV struck Torres and drove away from the scene. Officers were able to locate the white SUV at a residence nearby where the accident occurred. The driver of the white SUV was identified as Juan Luis Rodriguez (34). He was arrested and charged with Accident Involving Death and Criminal Negligent Homicide.
