On October 05, 2017, at approximately 10:40a.m., Uniformed Services Division Officers and Burglary Detectives were attempting to serve a felony warrant at 55 W. St. Charles St. on German Ornelas. While doing so, the subject Ornelas was located in a back room and brandished a knife after Officers entered the apartment and confronted Ornelas. Subject Ornelas defied orders given by the officers to drop the knife and our officers came under attack by the suspect. At that point, the officers fearing for their lives, fired on the subject Ornelas to end the threat that they were under. German Ornelas was transferred to local hospital with injuries sustained where he succumbed to his injuries.

After careful review of the facts and evidence, the Grand Jury has determined that no charges will be filed against any of the officers involved.
