Media Release: Police Service Dog “K-9 RUDY”
K-9 Rudy, 7 year old Belgium Malinois from Holland was born on 12-04-2009. K-9 Rudy passed away on January 26, 2017 due to Gastric Torsion (Bloat) while on duty. K-9 Rudy was handled by Senior Officer Pedro Gonzalez and had been since 2011 when K-9 Rudy joined the Brownsville Police Department. K-9 Rudy was trained in the detection of explosives and patrol work. He was used extensively throughout the Rio Grande Valley to assist other local, state and federal agencies. K-9 Rudy was assigned to the Patrol Division and assisted officers in numerous tracks as well as assisting in the arrest of several criminal suspects. Officer Pedro Gonzalez and K-9 Rudy were certified in Explosives Detection and Police Utility Dog. K-9 Rudy and Officer Gonzalez represented the Brownsville Police Department in school presentation and other public events. He will be dearly missed by his handler Officer Pedro Gonzalez and the entire Brownsville Police Department family. A ceremony for Police Service Dog “K-9 Rudy” will be held at the Brownsville Police Department on April 11, 2017 at 3:30 pm, to honor K-9 Rudy service to the Brownsville Police Department and the community.
